Spam email sent to OSG members

You may have received an email titled "Oxford Sculptors Group" asking if you are interested in obtaining the distribution/members list. THIS IS A SPAM EMAIL. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL AND DELETE IT.

Our website host, Jon at forty40studio has provided the following useful feedback on this situation:

The email has several characteristics of a generic email sent en-masse by robots particularly in the way it has addressed the recipient (not using your name correctly), the non specific information it refers to, it implies the members of the group are "decision makers and industry leaders" not understanding the nature of our group and it has been sent from a gmail address for anonymity.

Spammers buy and compile mailing lists of millions of email addresses and bulk-send emails like this in the hope that someone takes the bait. Under no circumstances should you ever reply to such a message, as this will validate to the spammers that your email address is live and will result in you receiving even more spam as it is sold on to other spammers. Similarly, never open an attachment or click a link in an email unless you are 100% sure that it is from a legitimate source.
