Deirdre Nicholls

Born in Edinburgh, daughter of a sculptor, Deirdre trained in sculpture & printmaking at Liverpool and Winchester Schools of Art in the 1970's. Taught by William Crozier, William Pye, Patrick Heron, Norman Ackroyd and others, she won the Northern Young Contemporaries prize in its early days.

Deirdre has exhibited widely and has work in public and private collections in the UK, US and France. Some of Deirdre’s best-known bronze portraits, such as a large bronze bust of Nelson Mandela, are in Glasgow City Chambers and the University of Edinburgh collection. Her current portrait work focuses on international women writers and includes Toni Morrison, Virginia Woolf and Hannah Arendt.

Most of Deirdre’s work is done to commission, full details available on request.
