Caroline Barnett
Caroline grew up on a farm in the Cotswolds, where she developed a deep love of nature and the subtle shapes and curves of living things. Expressing this through art was a natural development, but she read law at Cambridge before qualifying as a solicitor, and then travelling with her diplomat husband.
Returning to the Cotswolds, she began sculpting professionally in 2001, initially in ceramics, but now produces limited editions in bronze; bronze, stone and iron resin, as well as continuing with some ceramic sculpture.
Caroline’s work always seeks to express inner character within the outer form, and the sculptures which are mostly figurative, are always based on intensive observation and knowledge of the subject. She works in clay because it feels right under her hands, which want to build up shapes and textures rather than to carve away.
“I love the rhythms and processes of working with clay, and the freedom it gives to choose the final material. The finished piece may be in bronze; or a stone resin; or fired ceramic. Each material has its own language and physicality with an important role to play in my interpretation of life and form.”
Caroline’s works are in private collections in this country, Germany, Australia, Canada and the USA. She is happy to consider commissions both for indoor and outdoor pieces.
Sculpture works are for sale, possibly including those illustrated here. Please get in touch with the artist using the contact details below, for further information.
