Pene is based in the rolling hills on the border of Dorset and Wiltshire, an area of outstanding natural beauty. She loves the tactile form and character of large wild animals that are perhaps not so wild in England, researching online and wildlife parks such as Longleat. The animals are made on a strong wire armature -some say stop there - but the animal hasn’t come alive until it has eyes!
Most of the large animals are cast in small editions of slate resin, the original sculpted in a concrete clay mix both can live outside for many years.
Smaller pieces like the dog pictured are cast in bronze.
Pene went to the Ruskin school of Fine Art and that connection has drawn her to join the Oxford Sculptors Group.
