I have been sculpting for the last 50 years ever since I happened to get chatting to a sculptor on a delayed train and thought it might be quite a cool thing to do
I specialize in portraits and the human figure, working in clay which is then fired or cast in bronze or resin bronze or, more recently, jesmonite
as well as ‘real’ people I have created portraits of Henry VII and Henry VIII and even more famous characters such as Sherlock Holmes
I do wood carving once a week with the local last of the summer wine group
I have tried my hand at direct ciment fondu, a satisfyingly messy experience which suits my temperament
I have dabbled with hot bronze casting using the ceramic shell process but this is perhapss too hazardous on one's own
I went on a stone carving course in Italy (where else?) and intend to do more ('Tabula Rasa' is a jesmonite cast from the orginal in Italian limestone)
