Jonathan Hateley

Born in the West Midlands and now living and working from his studio in Kent, Jonathan Hateley is exhibiting widely, both in the UK and internationally, including New York, Hong Kong and Singapore. His current work stems from concepts that reflect elements of the natural world onto the human figure. Following the initial idea and successive sketches, Hateley creates a metal armature which he then covers in clay. His compositions are cast in bronze and highlighted with painted colour.
All aspects of the natural world inspire Jonathan. Working in clay, he enjoys the challenge of creating from both the real and imagined. Through his close observation and manipulation of materials, Jonathan is able to create detail and texture or surface bas-relief on his sculpture, which are hand finished and painted to accentuate the relief.
