Will Hunt

Will is happiest when he’s making things in his workshop. After designing and building his own rowing boat, he turned his attention to woodturning and woodcarving. He then honed his sculpting skills further, working with more malleable materials such as jesmonite.

Following his studies at Central Saint Martins, William first pursued a career in product design. His unique blend of engineering and artistic skills have enabled him to not only design distinctive works of art, but also create them single-handedly. He’s recently created a flock of bird sculptures, reproduced from his own multi-piece fibreglass mould.

Will doesn’t limit himself to using a particular material. He selects the material that enhances the design of each sculpture. His indoor sculpture is made predominantly from wood and plaster of Paris. However, he’s currently designing an outdoor sculpture for a garden sculpture trail. He’s experimenting with a number of hardy materials that will suit his sizeable bird design.

He describes his style as pure, elegant and contemporary. Admirers of his work find it beautiful, benign and uplifting. His lifelong fascination with birds and the outdoors clearly influences his chosen subject matter.

Will prefers to design sculptures that complement the environment where they’ll be displayed. After visiting Art Scope Gallery in Reading Circle hospital, he was inspired to create two bird sculptures, ‘Fernweh’ and ‘Halcyon’, which nestle beautifully in the dramatic space afforded by the modern hospital atrium.
