Steve Woodbridge

The power of fire as a method of transforming cold, unyielding steel into expressive forms draws me to create unique Sculptures inspired by Animals, Nature and the Human Figure.

I predominantly use found metal objects which find a new purpose in Sculpture. The original object is usually still recognisable but is often modified by heating and forging or bending whilst hot.

I work with a variety of techniques, welding, riveting, forging, cutting to form the individual shapes desired for the overall form of the Sculpture. I also draw and paint, often using these as a quicker method to work out the form of the sculpture and capture the essence of whatever has inspired me.

The challenge of a considered selection scrap objects forming an animal or human form intrigues me and drives me to create more pieces. I make sculpture to satisfy myself, if another likes it then that is fine but is not why I struggle with the pieces.
