Penelope Cairns

I studied drawing and painting at the Ruskin School of Fine Art in Oxford, England. I went on to do further painting at Sir John Cass, drawing at Central St. Martins in London and printing at Chelsea School of Art.

I started sculpting in 2011 and love the very tactile nature of this art.  To visualise and create an image in 3D is very exciting.  I work in clay, plasticine or wax which are then cast in bronze or bronze resin.  For my larger pieces I use a mixture which includes clay and cement on a metal framework.  These pieces are very weather resilient and made to live outside.

My work is in private collections in England, Scotland, Europe and the USA.

I have recently been exhibiting at the 164th RWA open exhibition in Bristol and at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London.

I have exhibited with the New English Art Club and Royal British Artists at the Mall Galleries. Past exhibitions have been in Chelsea and at the Lennox Gallery in Fulham, London.  I am also a member of the Bruton Art Society in Somerset, and the Blackheath Art Society.
