Moira Purver
Moira's sculpture is worked largely from life. Her main focus is studying the surfaces and movement in the human form, but whether sculpting animals or humans she strives to produce work that radiates a feeling of living energy. Most of her work involves portraying the softness of the female form but she has also completed several male sculptures using stronger muscle tone and textures. She received the America Square Conference Centre Award for her sculpture "Male Torso" at the SWA open exhibition in London in 2010.
Moira has always loved music and dance and has done several sculptures of flamenco dancers as well as one of the Argentine Tango. Her most recent flamenco sculptures are inspired by working with Ester Tal of Mi Flamenco.
Moira initially models her work in clay or wax, each with its own distinctive texture and qualities. Her sculptures are cast in bronze or bronze resin and include sculptures for both indoors and outdoors.
Moira exhibited in the Mall Galleries in London as part of Art Liberating Lives (2009) and with the Society of Women Artists annually since 2009. She was elected as an Associate Member of the Society of Women Artists in May 2011 (ASWA). She has exhibited in galleries in London, Dorset, Devon and Somerset and has taken part in outdoor sculpture trails in the South of England including RHS Wisley, Beaulieu, Red Orb and Sir Harold Hillier Gardens. She opens her studio to visitors each year as part of the Purbeck Art Weeks Festival.
