Malcolm West

Born 1957. Graduated from Art College with honours in 1978. Further study in an Academy in Italy, learning to carve marble.

Exhibited regularly from 1980 onwards, in joint exhibitions. With several showings at the Mall Galleries London, Henley Festival, Society and gallery shows in and around London. Plus one man shows in London, Germany and Guildford.

Mid 80’s started sculpting. Producing portraits on commission, and figurative compositions

From 92 became involved with scene painting projects. Working for Pedigree chum, Whiskas, travel shows, floats for the Lord Majors Show, awards ceremonies and band back drops.

My work appears in collections in the UK, Germany, USA, Australia and Jamaica. With cliental ranging from A list celebrities and landed gentry to everyday people.

I am inspired by movement and beauty, classical subjects and dance, and try to theme this in my work. Concerned with proportion, balance and bringing a different twist to composition. I am very experienced in all processes of drawing, painting, murals, scene painting, design, sculpture and casting.

Always happy to undertake commissions for portraiture in 2D and 3D. Recently  commissioned by Madonna’s record company to produce a portrait of her in Jelly Beans. Which was auctioned for charity and bought by Madame Tussauds. It replaced a previous jelly bean portrait, commissioned by Madame Tussauds, of Marilyn Monroe.

Currently showing a large selection of paintings and some sculptures at the Retro Bistrot, 114-116 High St, Teddington.   TW11 8JB. www.retrobistrot.co.uk Voted best restaurant in London, 2011.
