Richard Cresswell

My work ranges from figurative through my stylised to my abstracts, working almost exclusively in metal now and using the nature of the materials to give colours and textures to the pieces along with form. The one critical component always present is curves.
I find curves everywhere I look in the sky in reflections in water in humans, and more and more in man made objects. Curves are beautiful to look at but better if you can run your hand along one and I love to see people touching my sculptures and getting something extra from the feel of the piece under their fingers.

Working in metal allows me to make large work and also work which can exist out in the elements,
but this year I have found myself creating my first small scale pieces which would also work in a room setting

After studying art for 4 years at Warwick college of Art and Birmingham City University, where I won the Ikon Gallery prize for the best in my degree show along with a ‘first’, in the years since I have been developing as a sculptor till I have my own style and voice in materials I feel at home with and found a receptive audience always excited, like me, to see what I will produce next.
