Keith Appleby

Keith now lives in South Oxfordshire having lived and worked in Cornwall for 40 years.
Most of his working life has been spent teaching Art & Design and Photography and producing 2 dimensional work, mostly prints and photographs.

He now works with wood producing sculptures using a lathe and a variety of tools. His work explores the texture and pattern found in the wood and is often dictated by what he uncovers through turning and carving the wood. Some of his more complex pieces do require detailed planning although he often exploits unexpected breaks or holes in the wood as the work develops.

Although he loves the natural textures and patterns that emerge from the wood he also likes to combine more formal elements using brass rod or tube and increasingly has carved and worked into the wood with a variety of tools. More recently he has explored hollowed forms and suspended rings in many of his sculptures.
