Julia Beer

Most of my work is modelled using clay which is then either glazed and fired – sometimes outside in a raku kiln – or cast and produced in bronze. I have two predominant streams of work; portrait commissions and abstract, figurative pieces, either unique or in multiples.

Most recently I have undertaken a portrait bust of Sir Harold Gillies, known as the ‘father of plastic surgery’, an eminent surgeon who developed an innovative technique for repairing the faces of  airmen and soldiers  injured during the 1st World War, which is currently displayed in the Peace Garden in Basingstoke and is soon to be duplicated for the Royal College of Surgeons.
